West Essex Park is located in the towns of Livingston, Roseland, West Caldwell and Fairfield, New Jersey. It is part of the Essex County Park System and is within the western portion of the county. The Passaic River is a prominent feature and six miles of the river winds along the western border of the park. Pin Oaks and White Oaks are among the trees that stand tall in the park.
The river provides great opportunities for water recreation. There are boat launches at the northern and southern ends of the park. The river also provides great fishing. Surrounding wetlands are part of the Hatfield Swamp, which was formed by an ancient glacial lake, Lake Passaic.
