Banning State Park is located in Eastern Minnesota. The park resides within a shallow valley carved by the Kettle River and has many glacial potholes created by the Wisconsin glaciation thousands of years ago.
The river is a focal point of the park and provides a variety of water recreation. It is a popular place for canoeing and kayaking and features a 1.5-mile stretch of rapids, some of which are Class IV. Fishing is also a popular activity and record sturgeon have been caught in Kettle River.
Families can hike on the 14 miles of trails within Banning State Park. Camping is available in a campground containing 33 campsites. The campsites can accommodate RVs up to 50-feet long and 11 sites have electrical hookups. Showers and flush toilets are available in the campground.
The park is home to wide range of wildlife. 184 bird species have been identified within the park. There are also 34 species of mammals, including black bear, red fox and white-tailed deer.
