Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve is located in central Idaho at the site of volcanic lava flows and sagebrush grasslands. The monument contains over 25 volcanic cones plus various cracks and craters which give the area its name.

There are a number of hiking trails for families to explore, however many are rugged backcountry trails. The campground offers 51 tent and RV campsites with central water and restroom facilities.

Craters of the Moon is the home to a wide variety of plants and wildlife. There are 375 species of plants, 169 bird species and 48 mammals.
