High Falls State Park is located in Jackson, Georgia located on the site of a ghost town. The town, called High Falls, was once a prosperous industrial town with a grist mill, cotton gin, blacksmith, shoe factory and several stores. The town was bypassed by a major railroad line and eventually became a ghost town in the late 1800s. Several ruins remain within the park.
A prominent feature of High Falls is a 650-acre lake that is accessible to boating. Canoeing and kayaking a popular family activities and motorized boats up to 10 horsepower are also permitted on the lake. Families can fish on the lake and at the Towaliga River.
The park has 4.5 miles of hiking trails, which offer scenic views of the park's namesake waterfall. The Towaliga River flows through the park and cascades over a 135 foot waterfall, which is the largest in central Georgia. Camping is available at 111 tent/trailer/RV sites.
