Ocala National Forest is located in central Florida north of Orlando. It is the southernmost national forest in the continental United States and the second largest in Florida. It was established in 1908 and is the oldest national forest east of the Mississippi River. Ocala protects the largest contiguous sand pine forest in the world and has over 600 lakes, rivers and springs.

Talladega National Forest is located in the southern end of the Appalachian Mountains in Alabama. The National Forest was established in 1936 on lands that had been very abused and highly eroded due to over logging. Talladega has experienced regrowth and now represents a vibrant pine forest with a diverse ecosystem.

Pisgah National Forest is located in western North Carolina and includes a portion of the southern Appalachian Mountains. The forest contains some of the highest mountains in the Eastern United States with peaks reaching over 6,000 feet. It is managed jointly with three other North Carolina National Forests from a shared headquarters in Asheville, North Carolina.

White Mountain National Forest is located primarily within the state of New Hampshire and a small portion is located within the state of Maine. The forest is comprised of three discontinuous areas and contains six designated Federal Wilderness Areas. 100 miles of the famous Appalachian Tail pass through the forest.

Superior National Forest is located in Minnesota near Lake Superior and is known for its boreal forest ecosystem. The forest is made up of varied terrain and includes the Sawtooth Mountains and Misquah Hills. The highest point of the state, Eagle Mountain, is located within the forest.

Siuslaw National Forest is located in western Oregon and includes a variety ecosystems, such as sandy beaches and coastline forests. The forest contains Marys Peak, which is the 4097 feet high above sea level and is the highest peak in the Oregon Coast Range.

There are multiple areas within the forest, including Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, Sand Lake Recreation Area, Rock Creek Wilderness Area and Marys Peak Scenic Botanical Area.

White River National Forest is located in northwest Colorado and provides great opportunities for family outdoor recreation. The forest is named for the White River which is accessible by paddle boats and small motor boats. There are also a number of lakes within the forest, including Trappers Lake and Maroon Lake.

George Washington and Jefferson National Forests are located primarily in the Appalachian Mountains of western Virginia, but also have portions in West Virginia and Kentucky. The two forests are next to each other and combine to form one of the largest areas of public land in the Eastern United States. They are also administratively combined and function as a single unit.

Virginia's highest point, Mount Rogers, is located within the forest at the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area. There are 230,000 acres of old growth forest and 139,461 acres are designated wilderness area.
