Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge is located on the eastern coast of Kent County, Delaware. Most of the refuge is comprised of tidal marsh with some upland forest and freshwater. Also within the refuge is the Allee House, a pre-revolutionary war farmhouse that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Big Cypress National Preserve is located in southern Florida. The terrain is somewhat more elevated than the nearby Everglades National Park, but the two are part of the same ecosystem. The park is comprised of cypress forest, mangrove and a range of other flora.

Theodore Roosevelt National Park is located in the badlands of western North Dakota. The park is named for the 26th President of the United States who is well regarded as a conservationist. The park has three sections: the Elkhorn Ranch Unit, the North Unit and the South Unit. The Little Missouri River winds through all three units and the Maah Daah Hey Trail connects all three units of the park.

Brunet Island State Park is located on an island on Chippewa and Fisher rivers. It is part of the Wisconsin state park system and was developed in the late 1930s. The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) contributed to the construction of the park.

Grand Teton National Park is located in northwestern Wyoming and includes the major peaks of the Grand Teton mountain range. The tallest peak is the 13775-foot Grand Teton, which towers above Jackson Hole. The park is 10 miles south of Yellowstone National Park and is part of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.

Sourland Mountain Preserve is located in Hillsborough, New Jersey and is part of the Somerset County Park System. The preserve contains the northeast portion of the Sourland Region and features many outcrops.

The preserve offers family several opportunities within a quiet setting, including hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. The white-blazed Ridge Trail is 5 miles long and ranges in difficulty from easy to moderate. An extension to the trail extends to Roaring Brook and a large boulder field.

Talladega National Forest is located in the southern end of the Appalachian Mountains in Alabama. The National Forest was established in 1936 on lands that had been very abused and highly eroded due to over logging. Talladega has experienced regrowth and now represents a vibrant pine forest with a diverse ecosystem.

City of Rocks National Reserve is located in South Central Idaho and is governed by both the National Park Service and the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation. The reserve protects a portion of the historic California Trail and its landscape filled with granite pinnacles and monoliths.

City of Rocks is well known for rock climbing and there are over 700 climbing routes developed. Its granite spires range from 30 to 300 feet high and offer moderate to advanced difficulty.
