70-mile park spanning from outside Trenton, NJ to New Brunswick,NJ is comprised of the old canal and towpath of the Delaware & Raritan Canal. There are a range of historical structures along the canal, including bridges, bridgetender houses, canal locks, and spillways.

The canal was primarily used to haul coal from Pennsylvania to New York City and during one particular year it actually carried more tonnage that the more well-known Erie Canal. In the late 1800s, the use of railroads began to reduce the amount of good shipped along the canal and in 1932 the canal was closed.

Liberty State Park is located in Northern New Jersey on the shore of the New York Bay and has exceptional views of lower Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty, and Ellis Island. The land the park resides on was filled in by the Central Railroad of New Jersey (CRRNJ) and the Lehigh Valley Railroad and the historic CRRNJ Terminal still stands at the Northeastern end of the park.

Schiff Preserve is located in Mendham, NJ on property that was originally donated to the Boy Scouts of America in 1931 by Therese Schiff in memory of her son Mortimer. The property was named the Schiff Reservation and it served as national Boy Scout Training Camp. The Boy Scouts moved their national training camp to Texas in 1979 and sold the Schiff Reservation to AT&T.

Stephens State Park is located in Hackettstown, New Jersey and is near the larger Allamuchy Mountain State Park. A major feature of Stephens State Park is the rocky Musconetcong River which flows through the park and offers exceptional fresh water fishing. Along Waterloo Road at Saxton Falls are the remains of a lock and part of the tow path from the Morris Canal.
