Shawnee State Park is located in Scioto County, Ohio in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. The park was created during the Great Depression by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and is surrounded by Shawnee State Forest. Roosevelt Lake, named after Theodore Roosevelt, and Turkey Creek Lake are central features of the park and provide a range of family outdoor recreation.

Farny State Park is located in Morris County, New Jersey. The park is somewhat difficult to find and the access road is very rough.

The park is adjacent to the Split Rock Reservoir and provides great paddle boating. There are miles of hiking trails within the park, however the terrain can be difficult for smaller and less advanced family members.

Stillwater State Park is located in Groton, Vermont and is part of the Groton State Forest. The park is close to Montpelier, the state capital.

A major feature of the park is Lake Groton, which offers boating, fishing and swimming. A boat launch provides access to the lake.

Rocky Gap State Park is located within Allegany County, Maryland. A major feature of the park is the 234-acre Lake Habeeb that is fed by Rocky Gap Run. Near the lake is a mile-long gorge and Evitt's Mountain.

Families have many opportunities to camp within the park. There are 278 campsites, 30 of which have electrical hookups. There are also 14 cabins with electrical service. The campground has bath houses, camp store, nature center and a game room.
